Royal Ascot is an event like no other. It has been one of the most important horse racing meetings in the UK since the first meeting on Saturday 11th August, 1711.
The meeting has evolved and grown and now holds a pivotal position in the Global Sprint Challenge with the Royal Ascot Meeting now attracting entries from around the world.
One of the great charms of Royal Ascot Meeting is Ladies' Day and this is described on the offical Ascot website as follows:
The term Ladies' Day seems to have been first used in 1832, when an anonymous poet described the Thursday of the Royal Meeting as "Ladies's Day... when women, like angels, look sweetly divine."
They go on to say:
"Almost every racecourse markets a Ladies' Day now, but the great charm of the original is that it has evolved rather than been created - and there are no "best dressed" competition - It is the public, not the racecourse, who call it Ladies' Day".
We do have some "breaking news" though. As of 18 Jan 2012, it has formally been announced that Fascinators have been banned for this year's event. You can follow events on our new Blog & Mobile Website: www.surreyhatstudio.com
